Wash dals and soak for 1hour
Wet grind,do not add water.
Blend well ,cover and keep in a warm place for at leadt 1hour.
Add soda bi carb to dals and blend well.Meanwhile warm a steamer.
I make vadas in microwave oven,so i prepared the steamer of idli maker.I heated steamer for 5-6 minutes.
Greas the idli moulds ,add soda bicarb to dal batter and blend well.If required add a little water .The batter should not be dense or more thin.It should have a dropping consistency.
Pour a laddle full of batter into moulds.
Microwave for 3minutes on high power.(if using an idli maker on gas stove,steam the vadas for 20 minutes).
Check vadas with a toothpick,if required microwave 1more minute.
Dip vadas in a bowl of water at room temperature.So u can get more soft and fluffy vadas.Leave for 10 minutes.
Take curd in a bowl,add red chilli powder,ginger powder,salt and a pinch of cumin powder.Mix well.
Take out vadas from water,press gently in between palms to remove exess watet.
Arrange vadas in a serving dish,pour curd mixture over.
Garnish with cumin powder and tamarind chutney.
Serve.
